Weekend in review.

In pictures! Little Gym's on Saturday and showing my Dad our new place, then strolling through the park.

And these don't include all of the other memorable events, like getting a balloon fishing pole at Pappasito's, singing itsy-bitsy spider all the time, learning new dance moves, eating cupcakes with friends, and Ryan's return home.

I can't keep up with all the articles and interviews, politico, newsweek, Washington Times, CNN, but I thought this one was especially cool.

Happy Valentines Day!

How surprised was I to get a dozen roses today? Sent from Avinash, of course, via my little brother. I am completely touched.

I think the card was the best part:

"Happy Valentines Day! Don't dress me up like cupid and put it in the scrapbook!!
Love, Avinash"

Learning.

I came from work completely exhausted and frustrated yesterday. Looong OR case. Way too long than it needed to be. And two traumas in the ER right afterward (because no one else was available to see them, yeah right). Annoyed because everyone else had finished their cases early and basically just took off. And getting yelled at by the chief for complaining about that. Sorry, yeesh.

Anyway, I finally made it home and Avinash was thrilled. I mean, giggling, grinning hugely and running over to me with his arms wide open. Thrilled.

Thrilled because he wanted me to sing the 'Itsy bitsy spider' and Ana's spanish doesn't translate that well for the song. We laughed and played alot. Then I made dinner while he puttered around the kitchen rearranging the cabinets and whatnot.

We even sat down to eat together before Ryan came home, mostly I couldn't wait because I'd had no lunch and hardly any breakfast. Avinash was even eating well, peas and squash.

Then I heard the key turn in the door and I was just overcome with tired-ness. I left my dinner and plopped down on the couch and told Ryan to sit with the baby. I just felt completely done.

It took at least an hour for me to move from that spot. Avi kept coming over, climbing on and off the couch. We danced around a little bit after a while to some P&F songs. Ryan left to pick up milk and I decided to check out this toddler ABC website with Avinash called kneebouncers.com.

He was happy as a clam to smash all the keys and move the mouse, but he would protest every time I touched the mouse. Finally, I moved the mouse again for some reason and he flipped out. Screaming and crying at the top of his lungs. I told him to stop and when he did not calm down I put him in bed immediately after.

Now I feel completely guilty. I basically just lost my patience in an instant. Especially after how happy he was when I came home from work. I mean, no allowances for how tired he must have been or how neglected he might have felt after dinner since I was so tired myself. Nothing, just boom--off to bed.

I mean, it is tough with babies. I know he is a toddler now, but since he cannot really talk and I still think of him as a baby, I don't really think of rationalizing his behavior. But a little more patient explanations might go a long way. Sigh, it is amazing how much of a learning process this is for both of us.

New Layouts!

Avinash loves looking at his scrapbooks too!

Inspired by a mural in Philadelphia, dedicated to love I believe. It captured Avi's newly forming words perfectly.

I love this picture of Avinash careening toward the Pacific ocean so much that I had to do a special layout for it, even though I already have a complete other album of our Costa Rica trip put together. This was inspired by Ranjini Malhotra's spring madness layout. I find that light backgrounds really make my pictures pop more than busy patterned ones lately. This combines both aspects in one.
This quote I found in a box of Bryn Mawr memorabilia completed the whole thing perfectly!

Avinash has this pouting face he makes whenever we scold him now. Where did he learn this? Seriously, every time we say no to something, his lip quivers moments before he starts bawling.

Just a little 15 month recap page. I absolutely love this studio calico homefront paper. It is so perfect for boy pages! The white is super sparkly and the journaling is on velum, my new product I'm trying out. Turqouise thickers complete the look.

Scraplift of Vivian Masket, October Afternoon designer du jour. Love her use of multicolor thickers to match their stickers! Still need to work on this type of look, but I like it.
Thanks for looking! You know I love to share.

We have a 100$ gift certificate to Janie and Jack and more in gift cards to Banana Republic from our AmEx rewards. We finished off the Janie and Jack gift card in one go and then some.

{But this cute look was worth it}

At Banana I could only find one half decent thing to buy. Luckily, we found out that Stella McCartney is coming out with another line for BabyGap. And, since we missed our opportunity to buy her awesome rocker jacket last time, we don't want to miss out on the chance to get Avinash some cool clothes.

Especially since he may not appreciate being dressed up like a preppy whale watcher when he gets older...

We were hanging out at our favorite furniture store, Ndao. Tons of real wood furniture (crazy I know -- but we are sick of west elm and Ikea plywood and particle board).

This is our new bookshelf. It has carved sides with gorgeous turqouise accents. It is still sitting in the store window because it is awaiting a home.

Our new place search continued on today. We looked at the Amalfi two bedroom loft again today, but I still can't decide. The living room seems smaller, but the location is way better. And we would be so close to our friends Garima and Sameer. We found another place online which is a condo rental. This place has hardwood floors, more square footage but one less room.

We had another great dinner at home tonight. I am on a pretty good streak if I do say so myself. First portabello sliders with carmelized onions and tomato sauce on brioche buns last night for dinner, then brioche french toast with carmelized bananas and walnuts and now roasted baby squash with chickpeas. So scrumptious. Possibly the best thing of all is that Avinash loved all of it, and has gained over 2 pounds!

The Itsy-Bitsy Spider

is fascinating and a great dance song. Who knew?

p.s. Ryan, no one wants to hear the 'wheels on the bus' song. Not cool Dad, not cool.

He's baaaack...

full of laughter and joy!

This video is for you Mom and Dad, I know you must be going through withdrawal right now.
